Unified Data Platform

I build platforms that hide complexity — so teams can focus on what actually matters.

Boris Fründt. Engineering Leader. System Architect. Not a pure manager, but a practitioner who scales tech and the humans who build it.

Engineering the UDP Backend

Nelly is digitizing European healthcare. The Unified Data Platform is the engine making that possible — a high-velocity domain requiring complex bidirectional practice management system (PMS) integrations, canonical data models, and uncompromised SLOs.

It demands a leader who can operate at every altitude: defining business strategy with the CTO, mentoring Engineering Managers across squads, and stepping into the architecture to unblock data teams when the integrations get messy. Most importantly, it requires building a culture aligned with Nelly's core tenet: no egos, no drama, no jerks.

How my experience directly maps to your requirements.

Manager of Managers

Scaled Jung von Matt's tech organization from 0 to 14. Led 23 engineers across multiple product squads as CTO at SWAN, mentoring junior developers into effective tech leads.

Cross-functional Leadership

Years operating at the C-Level (CTO, Technical Director). I don't just write roadmaps; I align engineering objectives directly with product milestones and revenue outcomes.

Complex Integrations

From IBM enterprise layers to direct device-to-cloud pipelines at SWAN. I know how to establish canonical models and maintain strict reliability patterns (read-after-write, reconciliation) when integrating third-party systems.

Hands-on Architecture

I deliberately avoid becoming a "spreadsheet manager." I actively code, review complex PRs, and stay deeply connected to modern AWS cloud architectures and deployment tooling.

AI & Data Provenance

Shipping AI-driven value since Watson in 2015. I understand how to structure data platforms so downstream applications can leverage LLMs without wrestling infrastructure.

Culture & Purpose

"Only nice people" is my personal hiring rule. Healthcare offers the societal impact I seek. Driving impact > politics.

Why Boris?

01

Scaling is cultural, not just numerical

Growing an engineering team isn't merely about hitting hiring targets; it's about preserving psychological safety and velocity while systems become exponentially more complex. I've designed operating models that allow teams to self-serve while maintaining strict compliance in regulated environments. Quality and speed are not trade-offs; they are functions of a clear, drama-free culture.

02

Isolating Chaos with Canonical Models

The UDP must integrate with dozens of disparate practice management systems. This external chaos must never bleed into Nelly's core products. My architectural approach centers on robust canonical models and defining strict data contracts. I build platforms that absorb third-party unreliability so that internal product teams experience a predictable, SLO-backed API surface.

03

The Foundation for Applied AI

To build a truly AI-enabled fintech in healthcare, the data layer cannot just be a passive store. It must actively harmonize read/write events. Having built AI pricing products and agentic workflows, I understand what structural primitives data science and AI application teams need from the underlying platform to iterate quickly.
